Over the past two and a half years, General Ed has worked tirelessly to forge an exciting new sound, blending soul, funk, jazz, blues, psychedelic, and rock influences into a unique package. The band boasts live shows that combine raw rhythmic energy with profound emotion and salient musicality. They have shared the stage with a wide variety of successful acts, including U-Melt, The Great Train Robbery, John and Mary and the Valkyries, and Big Leg Emma. They have appeared at marquee Buffalo hotspots such as Nietzsche's and Club Infinity on several occasions, and even booked a set at ESPN's Bassmasters championship at the Buffalo Harbor.
Eve Guterman sings lead vocals and plays various small percussion instruments for General Ed. Though an active participant in numerous small ensembles and choirs over the last 10 years, Eve is a newcomer to the live music scene. General Ed is her first project and she is excited to be creating with equally talented musicians. Eve's vocal style is "a combination of gospel, jazz, and funk." Eve enjoys a good everything bagel on a Sunday morning. She is currently a sophomore at Barnard College.
Jordan Molzen plays drums for General Ed. He started with the school band at a young age in his original town of Rochester, NH. Jordan attributes most of his groove techniques to his funk based drum lessons throughout his adolescence. Although his core is funk, Jordan dabbles in most other genres including jazz, rock, and blues. He is looking forward to beginning his journey at Villa Maria this fall.
Ian Murray plays guitar and sings backup vocals for General Ed. He is also responsible for many of the band's original lyrics. He began playing the guitar at age 14, having previously studied the piano (since age 5) and the cello (Since age 8). He embraces a wide array of musical styles, having previously performed in rock, punk, folk, jazz, classical, fusion, and funk ensembles. He is currently a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania.
Will Africano is a Buffalo native and Amherst High School Alumnus who is currently attending the University of Notre Dame where he is majoring in Finance. After studying classical piano for nine years he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, and local musician, Ken Africano and began studying blues, jazz and rock keyboards. He believes there is no greater instrument than the funky Hohner Clavinet D6 and also enjoys an ice cold Molson Canadian if you are looking to buy him a drink after a show.
A Buffalo native, Brendan started his musical career at an early age. At 14 he started playing Buffalo hot spots and venues with the pop rock band Red herring. The bands serious attitude and musical motivation earned them the cover story of the Gusto in August of 2005. For the past few years Brendan has spent his time playing with various other artists across Buffalo along with General Ed. He spends much of his free time recording and practicing drums and bass. He is currently at the University of New Haven studying music and sound recording and plans to graduate with a degree as a sound engineer. His favorite cereal is Captain Crunch.
General Ed will make their Buffalo Indie Market debut at 12PM, Sunday, July 13th on the 2nd floor, Pan American Room at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery. Pearl Street will begin serving lunch on the Patio at 12:30PM.
