"I'm going crazy!" is what Katie Burger says while trying to find
time between full time & freelance graphic design jobs, crafting,
and her music. Katie and her friend Amanda Jensen are co-creators of
Invidia apparel and accessories. The two met in college and joined
forces since to create all sorts of unique and fun items. From fuzzy
felt friends, purses & bags, hair clips and jewelry, clothing and even
bottle cap magnets. "We aim to be eco-friendly and have quite a few
items that have been made from old garments and revamped into
something new and fresh." Invidia is always creating something!
When Katie isn't designing or crafting, she's working on her music
under the name KB June. Katie's been singing ever since early high
school mostly in alternative bands. She always had a love for the
piano, but it wasn't until her college years that she realized it was
her and the keyboard that worked the best. This allowed her to shape
her style and have total control over the feelings she wanted to
convey. Her music is self-produced, self-released and aside from a few
tracks, she provides all the instruments and vocals. She favors the
piano in most of her songs, paying homage to the musicians that were
crucial during her musical upbringing. Any fan of the female
singer/songwriter genre will be sure to enjoy KB June's somber piano
and haunting, delicate vocals.
Joining KB June will be singer/songwriter Platypus Rex, a local
artist that emerged on Buffalo's open mic scene in 2005. Platypus Rex
consists entirely of Jonathan Emerling and an acoustic guitar.
Emerling is also no stranger to the local scene; he has suffered
onstage in many now-defunct bands such as The Outcome since 2002 and
shows no signs of stopping. A drummer by trade, Emerling does his best
to distract the audience from his guitar playing with lyrics that poke
fun at living a life of mediocrity in a suburb outside Buffalo, NY.
He's also the creator of Invidia's wood-based displays!
Stop in this Sunday to see KBJune and Platypus Rex perform. Also stop by Invidia's table shared with last weeks featured artist. Lindsay Luu.
